The new hype Pokémon is huge, everyone is playing it. But how can marketers for brands or restaurants, clubs etc take advantage of it?
What is Pokémon GO?
For the 10 people who don’t know, it is a Pokemon game. You have to walk around physically to search Pokémon. You also have Pokéstops these stops are usually monuments in the real world, from those stops you can get various items. (Pokéballs and other items).
How to do Pokémon GO marketing?
There are a number of ways how you can use Pokémon GO marketing to market various things.
- Give a discount to specific Pokémon GO players.
In Pokémon GO you have 3 different teams, you can give a certain team discount to “lure” more people to your store.
- If there is a Pokéstop nearby your store, restaurant or cafe, you can put lures on those.
Lures are items in-game that attract Pokémon to a specific Pokéstop. Large a mounts of Pokémon GO players will be going to those stops, and maybe grab a ice cream at your store or what so ever.
- Prize award for the best Pokémon catch.
Organize a fun Pokémon event your store, where they can catch Pokémon. The Pokémon with the best combat points win, and they can claim a prize. In this way you will attract a lot of players, and sell lots of goods as well. You can try to do it in combination with a Snapchat Geofilter!
The future of Pokémon GO marketing.
Nintendo and Niantic Labs are planning to integrate more ways to market in Pokémon GO. In the future they will sell sponsored locations, those locations will attract Pokémon and Pokémon trainers! This will be great opportunity for marketers and store owners!
